If my phone says something about networks not being available, or not found, does this mean that my phone might not be unlocked? My phone is compatible with my network, so I don't understand why when I put my SIM in, it won't recognize my network.
Any ideas?

Have you checked if the phone works on the same frequency of your provider? Because if the phone is starting up, then it is correctly unlocked -phones reject SIM at start up-. But, if a manual search of networks does not show any network, then maybe the phone is not compatibe with your network or it has hardware problem.

I really appreciate your help!!!
What might a hardware problem imply? Something wrong with my actual phone?
I have a phone that is 900/1800/1900, and my network has both 850 and 1900. My SIM card is Rogers (which is mostly 850, but also 1900), and Rogers owns Fido (which is all 1900). Maybe be SIM would have to be specifically from Fido?

Test the following:
Do a manual search of networks with the phone. If no networks turn up, then it is probably a hardware problem with the signal. If this is the scene, I'll move the thread to the Hardware Repair section where hardware gurus will help you further.
Now... a manual search should show ALL networks available in the frequency, those where you can authenticate and those where you cannot. For example, when I travelled to a country where my phone was not compatible I found no networks, but when I travelled with a compatible phone 4 networks turned up, even if I wasn't able to connect with them.
If you do a manual search and the phone shows networks, then the problem is with the sim, I'd suggest you to contact your provider.
Check that please and post results!
