Hi all,

This is what I experienced with my 6230b...
I had burned my first three tries using the same method I used for my last two Nokias, sweated this for 3 days, read and read on here, posted, got no replies (because of the length I'm sure) and was frustrated to the point of saying f**k it, 2 tries left (I hope), I'm feeling lucky... compared what I did find that worked for two other 6230b Cingular phone users, and decided I'd try one and then the other as my last two tries.
The first method of the two worked like a champ!

Something else that I feel needs some clearing up with this phone...
which may be firmware specific but noone here would clarify this.
Just so you know, all the calculators say "remove Sim card first!" BUT...
All my other Nokias worked like that. When entering the code without a Sim card in the phone, the moment the final # of the unlock code was pressed, either the message "code rejected" or "phone lock removed" appeared instantly. This 6230b didn't do that. I entered the code, hit the final #, and nothing happened, like it was waiting for me to press some sort of enter key.
So I hit the green (send) button and got "Emergency Calls Only". Hmmm....
I tried again, again nothing happened when I hit the final #, so I tried pressing the middle of the big "joystick" button, still nothing happened.
So remembering the phone prompting the clueless new sales lady at the Cingular store to enter a code when the Sim was in the phone, I reluctantly decided to put in the new "phone restricted" 64k G3 sim cingular left me with that worked in both my other older Nokias I unlocked myself and I tried again.
When "Phone restricted" appeared there was an "undo" showing above the joystick button so I pressed it and was prompted to enter a valid code.
Ah, progress... So that was how I did the first 3 failed attempts and got the "code rejected" message each time, which is normal for an incorrect code entry with more tries remaining, although I'm told you'll still get that same message when entering a wrong code after all 5 tries are used up but I can't verify that since I've never been that unlucky so don't hold me to that...

Now...
Using the Crux/NokiaFREE.org downloaded calculator v3.10 exactly as follows worked for my 6230b ( RH-28 ) Cingular branded phone!
Also note, just in case you're wondering and want to compare it with your locked 6230b, if I did *#0000# to check the firmware version I got this:
V 05.51
11-08-05
RH-28
GSMP1.1
(c)NMP.

AND then by hitting the "down" of the joystick button it also said this:
V 05.51
31-08-05
RH12_28_-
GSM P1.1
|

Now...
Leave the sim out and enter *#06# to get your "Serial No" (IMEI).
Carefully write it down exactly as it is shown there on the screen.

Next insert the Sim that triggers the restriction and turn the phone on.

Using NokiaFREE.org/Crux calculator v3.10, these parameters worked for me.
Note: most calculators also suggest trying the +7# code first, then the +1# code but from most of my reading here about the 6230b the +1# appears to be your best bet as a first try for this model of phone instead.

Here's exactly how I did mine.
Start the calculator program.
Click the (options button)
go to the --Nokia-- section near the bottom.
Expert Mode (check it!!!)
Stretched codes (was already checked)
Select model from IMEI (I chose to check it)
(click the BACK button now)
*(main menu)*
(enter the following parameters)
Nokia
DTC4 (expert only)
IMEI [enter yours here]
U.S.A.
Cingular - Pacific Bell Wireless
MCC+MMC: 3101700
Asic 6
Asic 6 32821

Click Calculate
With the offending Sim still IN THE PHONE press the Undo button.
Enter the first code it shows in the list that was generated for YOUR IMEI:
#pw+(bunch of numbers, 15 digits)+1# and press the undo/ok button again. (I forget exactly what its' label was but it's the same button as undo.)

You either will get a restriction removed message and you can start using the phone, congratulations and enjoy!
OR you'll get a code rejected error and will probably have to try a different group of settings for the calculator program. You can try the +7# code but personally I'd try a new group of settings instead if it were my phone.
Remember there are only a total of 5 attempts available EVER so don't just go trying a bunch of codes and don't just try the rest of that code list!

If you've already tried and failed, be careful when you try another code.
Keep in mind, if you got the phone used you might not have all 5 tries, especially if a previous owner tried, failed, and didn't tell you about it!
If you're out of tries, whether you know it or not, I've read on here that it says something like "cannot remove restriction" if you do manage to enter the correct code. If you get that message you'll have to send it off to someone who has one of those super expensive "cable" interface box unlocker/flasher units which isn't the same as your simple little Nokia USB or Serial port PC Sync software cable so don't bother asking anyone for "the unlocker program for your phone's cable", there isn't one.
--------------------------------------
Another combination of settings that someone else here got to work for this model phone with an older V 05.xx firmware than mine (although that probably doesn't matter) is:

Nokia
6230(RH-12)
IMEI: (your Serial/IMEI number)
USA
Cingular - Pacific Bell Wireless
31017000
Asic 6
T-Mobile 32802

(again using the +1# code first that it generated, not the +7# code)
(Yes, T-Mobile in that box only, even though it's locked to Cingular!)

I HOPE that simplifies matters for all the newbie 6230b Cingular phone users.

Good Luck!

Feel free to comment or list settings that DID work for your 6230b, including provider, firmware, program you used (including its' version), and anything else you care to share.

DON'T post any IMEI numbers, EVER!!! YOU WILL NOT GET ANSWERED!!!

I hope other 6230b users find this post helpful BUT...

Please don't PM me or ask me to unlock your phone! I'm NOT an expert!!!
I just wanted to give more exact program settings that some other Cingular branded 6230b users like myself got to work since most of the posts I found about this crazy little phone were confusing, conflicted each other, and weren't a step by step guide at all for what did and did not work for them.
What I've posted here is only what worked for me and I don't want to be responsible for you using up all five of your tries so please don't ask me!

Enjoy,

Nokianut5165 and his now UNLOCKED Cingular 6230b! YAY! :D

Strange I have always unlocked Cingular 6230b with serial 32802 no probs!

Hey man, thanks for that note!
What other values did you also use? Model,Provider, Location/Country, ASIC6, etc?
You'll probably find that depending on which number you put in that particular field there is one set of 3 digits in the resulting generated codes that's different, the rest of the digits are identical if the provider, etc are otherwise set the same.
Using my phone's IMEI I tried entering each combination of all the different values I found on this site into the calculator, one group at a time, logged the codes that the various combinations of values generated, then compared all of them to find that only certain groups of digits varied as settings were changed and in some cases I found that different values made no difference in the resulting codes that were generated by certain combinations as well.
Different people have had success with certain combinations that didn't work for other 6230b owners for reasons I can't even begin to know. I suspect that firmware, provider, location, etc all play factors in what works for each individual 6230b phone but who knows for sure besides Nokia?

The newer Nokia 6230b's definitely need to have wrong SIM card IN as opposed to the old ones that needed it out. Found this out by accident using an AT&T SIM on a Cingular 6230b. you still need to go through expert mode on the old Calc.'s but I believe it's set right on the newer Cruz 5.0.
