As known there are two methods to communicate with IR between gsm and PC: DirectIr and IrDa (DirectIr is used in older phones like 6110, IrDa is generic ir transfer protocol and it is used in all newer Nokia's with Ir support) It is possible to fix connection problems (with DirectIr) in Win95, 98, 2K and ME by using "generic ir commmunication port".

Problem is how to enable DirectIr in WinXP
There are two ways to do that:
1. Generic Ir driver for XP
(Ir port acts as normal communication port. It usually replaces Com2)
2. Adding IrDa support to older phones by modifying flash
(is this possible?)
