HELP please, 6230b can't read "gallery"

I have a 6230b with 400hrs of talktime, about a year old, never gotten wet. it's unbranded nokia oem (not cigular) with fw version 4.43.

All of the sudden I can't access the phone memory or the mmc through the "gallery" .. when I do, some of the files show up as folders and can't be accessed, files and folders show up with weird names, etc. when I look at the mmc card with a card reader, everything is fine.

the phone is just out of warr, and iunlock flashing would cost $42. :(

any ideas would help!
