Hello
A phone which is reported "lost" or "stolen" will be IMEI blocked and won't work in your country.
The IMEI can be changed, but that requires to replace a chip (UEM) which holds the IMEI and can be programmed only once, and to write the IMEI in the new chip, and to flash the phone. The equipment to get that "operation" done cost more than several new phones.
You could be honest and return that phone to the provider... which would give you a good feeling and eventually even a reward (not sure about that tough).
Or you can either sell it on ebay to someone in another country (you need to mention that it is blocked in your country! Saves trouble....) or trade with someone who got a blocked phone of same type in another country. You risk to be on the receiving end of a truly STOLEN phone, and the poor person who put his/her money on for it wishes very much to kill you......
Kind regards....
