NEC E606R, locked to 3

though on the phone it actually sais E606, not E606R but the box sais E606R

anyway, i have tried a few times to get this unlocked, but using the NokiaFree calculator, once i enter the code nothing happens, i cant "accept" what i have typed in, and if i turn it off it clears the text before it turns off

any help would be massivley appreciated, also whats this i hear about a cable mod?
can i mod the usb cable to flash it?

Edit: i dont want to have to spend money on this phone, i am after a free unlock service.
I dont care (much heh) about entering the codes everytime i take out the simcard.. or is it only when you change the sim? either way, if i cant unlock it for free, im not gonna buy the phone (only £15 off a mate)
