    Tracable

Im just wondering because I used to have an 8310 and it got stolen and now I have the 7650 I dont want that to happen again (or even lose it) but if it should fall into someone elses hands, is it tracable?
I ask this because my last one was stolen in Ibiza and they didnt care but if it was to happen in UK would my provider (Vodafone) be able to trace the phone even if they put a different SIM in... one of my m8's recon that they can if they want to but they didnt try with my last one.

Of course it's tracable. All mobiles are. That's why you have IMEI (something like of a serial number that each phone has and it logs to the network with it). You go to your operator with the bill and you report the phone stolen.

Then the operator puts the IMEI number in the blacklisted phones and whoever has your phone (and this has nothing to do with what SIM card he has in it) will not be able to log in the network.

I think this works internationally so if your phone gets stolen in Ibiza, it's probably blocked there too.

(there is of course such a thing as IMEI changing, but it's highly illegal and you can be put in jail for up to 5 years for it)

    Hope this helps.

So really the people that stole my 8310 were wasting their time as they didnt get anything out of it... not even a phone that they could reuse :-/ seems pointless unless they didnt know about IMEI.

    BTW Thanx for the reply

Well, actually, they could use it without a problem unless you came to your operator with the bill (on which there is also the IMEI number) and they blacklisted it afterwards...

or they could just get it unlocked so it would work on any network apart from the one it was originally on
