8290 "Provider Lock"

I purchased an 8290 off Ebay for my sister to replace her broken one but it turns out there is a "Provider Lock" on the phone. Is there a way to unlock this with a code so I dont have to buy a cable or take it to a store that can do it? Thanks for your help.

i think for DCT3 phones like your 8290, you have to get the codes only from your provider so
just purchase a data cable of ebay. the cheapest one i think is $7.00 including shipping. just use nokia tool by rolis v1.8 and click the clear sp locks button and nothing else.

you should be able to put any sim in the US
