Thanks for the help so far, as you will guess i am a novice with phone unlocking. The sim card that was in the phone was o2 but i dont think it was the original card. It came up unregistered. I tried another o2 and got the same. T mobile sim looks like it works as the logo is on screen but the card cannot be used. All other sims i have tried didnt work apart from t mobile. Does this mean that the phone will only work on t mobile after hopefully unlocking it. The handset has the imei number i posted on it although i typed the code into the phone to receive it. Do i have to buy another sim? as well as trying to unlock it. I now have t mobile sim in the phone and hope an alternative code or any advice will help. The unlocking code provided answered with code error when attempted.

Any help would be appreciated

yah, im having the same problem with 8390. When i punch in the code it too gives me a "Code Error". I need to get this phone working quickly as i dont have one that works with Cingular cuz my 8890 died on me.

It sound to me like you fone is barred
deu to have been reported Lost or Stolen
if this is the case you wont be able to use the fone at all
to use the fonr you will have to change the UEM chip

if your phone really is barred like crashynot said, you will not be able to use it in your country, but you may swap it with someone from another country. it will not be barred there..
