it just makes that funny sound and hangs up. as if there is no service.

Try this
Settings -> Call settings -> Own number sending
set it to 'Set by network'

And what you mean 'hangs up' ??

i dont know. it just makes that sound,
when you get cut off because there is no service.
its like when you go into a tunnel. and it cuts off.
