8210 LCD repair...

hey ppl, i have 2x 8210's that need their screen fixed (screen dissapears and re-appears), after searching thru these forums ive come to the conclusion that i need a elastometer (2).

now i wouldnt have a clue where to get these, ive contacted local phone repair shops and they are all charging around $50 AUD to fix the phone.

all i want is a couple of elastometers, if i cant get these do you know if i can improvise with anything, is there a quick fix i can do?

im located in Perth, Western Australia, any suggestions or help (OR FREE ELASTOMETERS *wink wink*) is appreciated!

Try this: apply preasure on the nokia logo over the screen if everything is ok disasemble Your phone, remove LCD get some alcohol clean the PCB contaacts and the elastomer /its a small rubber on the top back side/ .. hope it works for You..

it looks pretty worn down, what is the point of this little rubber thingy, is it conductive? being runnber i dont think so, then what is the point of the contacts on the underside of it? pretty confusing, so far ive replaced it and got the screen back, but as a tradeoff for some reason i have no reception, not even one bar, and 2 green led at the bottom of the keypad have turned off.

hmmmm this is not much fun anymore.

any suggestions.

The rubber is not conductive! But it does contain small wiring which is! What else did you touch on the phone? You've obviosly broken something or shorted it badly!? Re-assembly may be bad! Take it apart again, clean it and re-assemble!

ok, it looks like i was a bit rough with the phone cause ive knocked off 2 LED lenses.

Ive got 2 8210's here, one 8210 has a security code on it, so its useless to me, i have no way of removing it.
Im using it for parts.
I took the LCD from this phone and put it on my phone.
My phone works fine now.
I noticed that the 8210 i used for parts had a cleaner, thicker and different colour elastometer, so i have a funny feeling it is a new revised 8210.
Hopefully my new fixed 8210 will have a long life with the revised elastometer.

Does the elastometer contain vertical metal bits that act like a jumper for the contacts it touches?

The elastometer is so maliable and soft i didnt think it could possiby contain any metal.

In that case i think the original elastometer in my phone that was causeing problems is dead now, i tried to remove it and it wouldnt budge, i think a small tear is now present.

Now that i think about it, the new elastometer i put in my phone would have to be a revised one, because it wasn't green, and it was easily removable.

hmmm.

Now i have a 8210 working great with 2 broken leds at the bottom of the keypad.

And a 8210 with a dead elastometer and a security code on it.
its pretty useless to me, what do you guys think i should do with it?

hi todd.....im in uk and daughters phone has no volume controls....copper broken in switch..if you want to sell it for more spares ?...

Security code is found using data cable (Mbus)! Elastomer's cost about $2! Keep it dude!

ive never seen a data cable for a 8210, as far as im aware they were never officially released by nokia in australia.
i see alot of nokia data cables now for newer phones but still none for the 8210, ive always used the infrared with my laptop.

i dont have any experience with flashing or hacking, i pull my phone apart every now and then to do repairs and often use logomanager but thats it.

it would cost me $35 aud to get it flashed, and another $35 for a replacement elastometer, so you see its useless to me now, unless there is someone in perth australia that has a datacable, or there is another way to get rid of the security code, then it might be some use to me.

any suggestions.

Forget the data cable crap! What we mean is an F\Mbus cable! We just call it a data cable! Search the net, ebay for example! While your at it get a flasher kit and then you can modify and repair also! M-99 in the U.K sell full kits which will do all DCT-3 phones For only 18.75 Pound! About AU$60!

is the mbus cable unique to the 82XX series or is it compatible with all nokia phones?

hi all

that "datacable" is almost universal only the connector is different.

here in the netherlands a 8210 data cable is sold for about €9,-
if you have such a cable, you can use logomanager(demo's for free) and read out the security code.

the cable
take off battery
place connector in batt. compartment
place batt. in the connector
plug it to you free comport of the computer
start the program
i don't remeber the look of the button to read phone info
