question about unlocking

Is all the 'free remote unlocking' done on this site about changing the IMEI or is it just some kinda other unlocking?
Unlocking different than changing IMEI?
How about if a phone is lost or stolen , can he or she open/unlock it with these silly codes u post to this forum? Or is then the IMEI changing needed? DCT-4 phones, I mean..

IMEI Changing is diferente than unlocking, unlocking enables u to use diferent sim card, from different companies I meant, it doesn't mess with the EMEI...I did read somewhere that IMEI's can be changed I wouldn't do it here anyway.. Hope that was enough info for ur question, if not I'm sure some ppl here will give a better explanation..
