question about BARRED phones...

anyone can help me...
if a fone has been barred in a country, u then cant use it 2 make calls but text...
but what if i flash it by another firmware?
or change the imei code...?
i think as long as i change the imei it will be not on working again,right?
but take nokia 6100 as an example, if i flash the firmware(both parts)
will the imei be changed automatically or i have 2 change the imei seperately?

Barring is based on the IMEI, so if you changed it, you should be able to use the fone again. Its illegal, and some fones have the imei on a write once chip which would need to be replaced. Probably easier swapping it for the same model from a different country.
