I've heard that the earlier version 3310 are succeptable to this problem. Something to do with the transciever right?
Is there another way around this or do we have to change the part?

if you were to upgrade to a newer software version you will sort this problem out. newer version ussually means fewer bugs in software.
How do I go about upgrading the software version?
Where do I flash from? and to where?
maybe its the hardware problem because in 95% of 3310 that aouto power off is hardware problem...in a resistor...you just have to remove it....
To Abe: can you show me what register is removed?
Thanks alot
