Specific firmware for specific geo-location

is there such thing like that ?... because i had a 3650 (originally from macao) which i want to be upgraded to the latest firmware 2.5.0 (currently i have 2.4.1).... i have asked nokia center's guy about this and he come back to me saying that he could do the upgrade but the firmware might not be compatible for my phone and it might made my phone DIED (worst case)... at first i thought since it's a nokia phone... all the firmware should be the same and no matter where you bought it from, it should be able to be upgraded from anywhere too... (the nokia guy told me that it is recommended if i upgrade my phone in macao!!)... sh!t the airfare alone would cost me a bomb.... anyone aware of this ?... i really want to upgrade my firmware but afraid since they told me that my phone might died....

basing on my experience, when i upgraded my 7650, they told me that the fon can die BUT they will replace it with no charge becuase its still under warranty. ask if they offer the same service.

hmmm never heard of a phone dieing coz of a firmware upgrade.... I've had my 7650 upgraded 3 times and no problems till date...I don't think there are different firmware's for DIFFERENT LOCATIONS......
