Thread: NOKIA 8210 screen blanking

    Unhappy NOKIA 8210 screen blanking

I have an 8210 which works fine in most respects, however when you go into the messages inbox and try and open up a message (any message) the screen blanks. The only way to get the phone running again is to re-boot it. The same some times happens (but not all the time) when you go into names/numbers. Any possible ideas or help would be much appreachiated.

99% sure its a faulty Lcd srceen! try another lcd and it should cure the fault.

It is somthing to do with the resistors which are built in to the back of the lcd..

Before u change the LCD try a simple trick...clean the contacts on the PCB (the ones interfacing with the LCD connector)with an eraser. This sometimes solves this problem.

I have a very similar problem but happens as follows:
1- power up the phone: sometimes it is blank sometimes I get the enter pin code.

2- enter the pin, code accepted display and than Nokia logo displays and than it goes blank, this happens the most often.

3- Go to some menu (like inbox etc), it goes blank

Is this definitely an LCD problem or could it be an elastomer problem?
I am planning on swapping out the elastomer first, much cheaper and if doesn't work, try out the LCD change.

    Any views will be appreciated

    Hi leylek,

What I forgot to mention in my earlier post is that you should also clean the contacts on the LCD with an eraser besides cleaning those on the PCB. This has worked in a case similar to yours. IN case this still doesn't work, try changin the elastomer and then the display as a last alternative.

    Goodluck,

mobwhizhead is right-definitely LCD problem as thers 2 condensors (those 2 little components(blocks) soldered on to LCD) these are the problem so change your LCD make sure new one is workin & make sure that its new type as even the nokia original are faulty. you couyld buy the bare LCD with no condensors on & slide it in place affter removing old LCD from from plastic & metal housing.

    Just for info,

I had exactly the same problem and after a lot of posting in the 8210 forum, here kootp pointed me to a faulty batch of nokia lcd's.
I had already changed my lcd 2 times in 1 week but no luck.
Then I looked at the lcd and saw that the lcd which was blanking had "golden" contacts around the elastomer (this indicates the faulty batch)
I then took one of my old lcd's which didn't have that "golden" contact but just plastic and the elastomer directly on the screen
    and everything went fine.

All props goto kootp for this one
