Lately I've heard that you cannot unlock a Fido(Microcell) phone remotely, I wonder if it's true or not.

Second, is v1 and v2 codes interchange able? Like v2 and v1 code will work the same way?

there is a problem unlocking some (or all) Fido phones, and at&t 3650s. not sure why...
but, you can try entering one code, it might work.

v1 and v2 codes are the same, except for the second digit in each code - the v2 codes' second digit is smaller by 1 compared to v1 codes.
