8310 infra red

i've got an 8310 , and have downloaded the data suite for it .

the problem i've got is that the data suite wont find a cable connection to the phone , this isnt the end of the world cos the other option is infra red.

do i need some special hardware for the infrared to work.

make sure you have an IRDA port on your PC or laptop, and that its active and looking for other IRDA devices.

Turn on IRDA on your 8310 and place it no more than 1/2 metre away from your IRDA port, close the better.

Open your application and off you go.

what exactly would an irda port look like

An IRDA port on a laptop will normally be very very dark red, plastic "window" on the side of the unit. On PC's they are normally an external unit which either plugs directly into the motherboards IRDA header (a set of pins) or a device that plugs into the COM port.
