3650 Start-Up Problem

Hi! My 3650 just failed to start-up. I even couldn't solve the problem using safe mode, so I took the memory card off, turned the phone on and the problem got solved.

I haven't recently installed any applications on my phone. I even didn't copy/delete any data on it lately. Everything has been installed on my memory card and the phone was just working perfectly.

This is exactly what happened: I set the alarm to get activated next morning, then I turned the phone off. In the morning, the phone alarm started to ring and as I deactivated it, I got the SYSTEM ERROR Message for a second and the phone automatically went off. So I pushed the ON/OFF button, the display backlight got activated and the NOKIA Sign appeared on the screen and then it just freezed like that! The only way to exit this is to take the battery off.

I was thinking to uninstall the application which is supposed to be in the phone start-up (BugMe!), but as this application had been installed on MMC like the other apps, I don't think that it can be uninstalled without having the memory card on the phone. Correct if I'm wrong please.

I would appreciate your help on this.

hmmm, if u got a mmc card reader, maybe delete the app?

dont format with mmc card reader unless u know how to, else ur pc will nv detect ur mmc again.

I don't have a mmc card reader! Don't you think if I uninstall the app (actually without putting the memory card in the phone), at least I can initiate the safe mode and then completely delete the app?

I know it sounds weird, because the app is actually installed on memory card. But maybe uninstalling it the way I said, can partially disable it!

in most cases, safe mode wun work, but u can try.

It didn't work! Without having the memory card inserted , I tried to remove the app from the MANAGER OPTION, but I received the System Error Message and it aborted.

I was thinking maybe I can install a File Manager on my phone memory and then manually delete some files related to the app, so I can at least start the phone in the safe mode having the memory card inserted.

Obviously as the app has been installed in the memory card, there is no way to completely remove it, without putting the memory card on the phone. But at least some of the system files related to this app must be located in C:; then can I manually delete some files, causing the app to fail, then using the safe mode, start the phone and completely remove it?

yes that might work.
do you know which files are related to the app?

if not, try using an UnMakeSis program and extract the sis installer that you have. there you will see which file goes where... then u can delete them

I located its INI file and deleted it (even the whole relevant files), but didn't work!


Actually I was thinking maybe that has got nothing to do with the applications already installed on MMC, because the phone crashed just before any application got a chance to start. As I told you, the alarm was set, so the phone turned on automatically and the alarm got activated and as soon as I deactivated it, the SYSTEM ERROR Message appeared for a sec and the phone went off. So the phone actually didn't start and that's why I don't think this might be an app-relevant problem. Then formatting is the only way left.

I've some precious data left on my MMC!!! Anybody has got another solution?!

you could try the boot format

i cant remember the buttons to press though but i read it here before that you could format your phone on start up. you just need to hold down some buttons.

Boot Format? Never heard of it!

Do we have such option on 3650? As far as I know, holding the Pen Key down while turning on the phone, can initiate the safe mode which is not what you're talking about.

Anybody knows such a trick on 3650? Format the phone on start-up?

yes boot format... as far as i can remember, it was an old trick with the 7650. because of its very small memory.

theres no boot format for older symbians. best u could do was hold pencil button for safe mode.

*#06# to find your IMEI number.
*#7370# to format your phone. This will restore your phone to the way it was when you bought it. Make sure your battery is charged or nearly full before you do it.
*#7780# similar to *#7370#
*#2820# to find out the bluetooth ip address of the phone
*#res0wallet# to erase all data stored in the wallet. lock code is required
Green, *, 3 to format the phone, turn off and hold these keys while phone is rebooting. do not let go until "formatting" appears and make sure you have enough battery power (3/4 minimum)



It may happen that a program corrupts the C: drive of your phone. In such case, some data can be lost of course but, more annoying, some applications may not work or work only partially,...

On a Series 60 based phone, two key sequences will allow to restore your phone to a cleaner state:

1) Normal Reset (*#7780#) : Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc)

2) Deep Reset (*#7370#) : This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten.

In both case, the phone will ask you a confirmation and you will have to enter a security code (12345 by default).

Files and applications stored on E: drive are not be affected by these sequences.


* Useful helps : Full phone formatting a 6600! Here to let everybody how to perform a Full phone formatting on a 6600! If you encounter situation like below on your 6600,

1. Blank screen phone unable to reboot. (Remove the battery and insert it again and restart but still the problem is on)
2. Phone only able to boot-up to "Nokia" word screen.
3. Install some program but not able to uninstall it after that. (if the problem is “unable to delete xxx, already in use by c:..” try to restart the phone first. Wait for a few minutes after restarting then try uninstalling it again but the problem is still there)
4. Unable to delete unwanted files on C drive. (Reboot the phone but the problem is still..)

Then U should reformat your 6600 phone! as steps below,

1. Make sure you have at least 3/4 charge of battery power left.
2. Backup your contacts list and personal files to MMC memory card or send them into your PC using IR or BT
3. Switch-off your 6600 phone.
4. Press and hold 3 keys;
i) Green dial key,
ii) * Star key,
iii) no.3 key on keypad
and then press the power on/off to swtich on the 6600 phone. Remember, do not let go the 3 press and just hold the keys until you see a formatting word screen show!
5. After a few minutes when the Full phone formatting completed, your 6600 will back to original system and factory settting

Boot format does not work on 3650, schizo. We 3650 owners got it up the arse pretty hard with the lack of memory and boot format.

I really do suggest that you buy a card reader Medasa. Then you can backup the MMC files on ur comp.

I've used this method before: I backed up the whole MMC on my comp. (this included the contacts.cdb file which I copy to my MMC once in a while in case something goes disastrously wrong). Then I formatted my phone without the MMC in. I went on the computer and deleted all the application files and extraneous mess ON THE CARD. So on the card, all I kept were pics, the backup CONTACTS.CDB file, and a few other files I didn't want to delete, none of which were program or app files. On the computer I had a complete backup of the card, just in case I had deleted something I didn't mean to. I put the card in the phone (which was wiped clean, remember?) and installed seleQ directly to the phone (always a good idea, since seleQ is so small). I moved contacts.cdb back to its proper directory (ask how to do that if you don't know; it takes some folder renaming). And voila. I had my phone pristeen with all my pics and contacts still in tact.

If you aren't anal like me and you don't copy ur contacts.cdb file every so often, I hope you had ur contacts and pics backed up on your computer with PC Suite. I generally don't use the phone's backup to MMC/restore from MMC function. When I format my phone, I want it clean, not the same as it was before.

Smpballa240! Actually before buying a reader, I took my phone to a service center, asking whether he could get an access to my MMC through his Card Reader. He claimed that the MMC was corrupted and he couldn't even format it!!! So I decided to buy a new MMC, instead of the card reader But I couldn't believe why this could have happened because as I described in my old post, the phone didn't even get a chance to start and there was no transaction between the phone and MMC, the moment my phone crashed! I was looking for a digicam, supporting a MMC, verfying my corrupted MMC one again but just before I borrowed the camera, I went to another service center and asked them once again to check my MMC and guess what! The card was still unreachable but at least he formatted it easily! Piece of cake

So back to normal life! My 3650 works just fine before arriving my new 7610 in one month
