Does the DCT-3 flash memories have any need for programming before mounting, or can a completely blank flash chip be "in-circuit-programmed" in the normal way using e.g. Rolis Flasher? (I.e. does the boot loader code reside on the flash itself, or in a separate ROM area?)
I am planning to upgrade the small flash chip of 6110 to TE28F160B3T120 (2Mbytes) or compatible one. There is not so much space for your own additional software in 6110 with its standard 1 Mbyte flash.
6110 has also an separate EEPROM chip, so the "EEPROM" block is not blocking the way for expanding the memory. In the hardware point of view it is easy upgrade because the required extra address line A20 is already present on the PCB. The flash is in a TSOP package in 6110, so it can be changed using standard SMD tools. (In newer phones the flash is in a BGA package and replacing them is practically impossible.)
