    Nokia 6260 Boot problem

    Hi all,

I have a Nokia 6260 that has a problem booting. If you start it without a sim card in it boots up to the insert sim card screen no problem. If you start it with a sim card in it boots, the screen flashes and then it shuts down. I have flashed the latest firmware and formatted user area etc but no joy. There is no sign of water damage. The only problem i can see is one small component on the board near the battery connector has a chip in it. I have circled the chip in the attached picture. Could this be the problem? Anybody know what this one does.

    Thanks

Don't worry, I have sorted it.

Quick wash in my Ultrasonic bath with ISO and its working. Must of had some dirt somewhere. Not sure what that chip is but it isn't stopping the phone working.

what sort of results do you get from using your ultrasonic bath? i have been thinking about getting one but since i have never really believed in putting liquid damaged phone into more liquid to repair them, do you find that you can bring a lot of phone back with a quick bath!? i have heard some horror stories about BGAs falling off while in the bath so thats why i havent really looked into them properly!!

Well I picked up my Ultrasonic Bath on ebay for about £35. I haven't started using it on PCB's until recently but it has worked wonders on things like chassis and covers. When i strip the phone down to components parts anything plastic goes in for a clean. It works wonders on 6230 C chassis.

BGAs falling off, did they say what fluid was used, you do have to be careful not to use anything solvent based as the glue will dissolve!!

Just started looking into using it on water damaged phones but I doubt if ultrasonic alone will cure that more likely a combination of that and reflowing. That said I have little knowledge of reflowing so tips on that would be useful

All in all a good investment for working on phones.

i see... well sounds good, there are a few guides on the forum about how to reflow BGAs and might i recommend getting a good hot air rework station, i have heard of some people using paint strippers and the like (including me on occasion) but they are not controlled enough really...

    thanks for the info!!
