    Nokia 6021 Repair

    Hi all,

I have a Nokia 6021 that will not boot, sadly the last owner has damaged the metal shielding locks so I can't return for warranty repair. When i try to flash the phone i get the following error on my Twister Gold box:

    1st Boot Ok, DCT4, UPP: 2142
    2nd Boot Error: 2
    Platform: 3, Error Data:
    E3 72 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Process Failed, Repowering Mobile

Anybody any ideas? No obvious signs of liquid damage, anything other than reflow or perhaps a steer towards a particular component.

    Thanks

    Adam

as long as you have set your box up correctly then your flash ICs need a reflow, if that doesnt fix it then you need to replace them... as i said though, the most common problem with this kind of fault and others like it is that the box isnt set up correctly...

Not going to bother trying to repair this one. It just dawned on me that i can take the RF shielding off the 6020 that has come back. Replace the broken ones on the 6021 and send that off for repair as well

I will let you know what the fault was when it comes back.

    Hi,

Well Nokia have got back to me ref the 6021. It's MCU has a boot failure and its gone off to Nokia for repair or replacement. Will get something back soon.

    Keep you informed.

yeah if you had tried to flash it with phoenix then it would have failed for an "MCU Boot Fail" which doesnt really explain much, basically, from your UFS i can tell that your flash ic either needs reflowed or replaced... Nokia will replace it as they dont reflow... good move, a warranty repair is always the best option if you can get it done!!

by the way i hope you all know that Nokia Warranty is now 2 years as from the 1st april 2005... hehe

Yep, I have 3 phones with Nokia now. It makes the faulty but new phones all the more appealing as long as there is no physical or water damage.

I had the feeling that the MCU boot was the same fault my UFS picked up. Didn't know the service centres couldn't repair! I will await my new handset with glee. Do you know if Nokia issue just the handset or a complete new boxed phone?

nah when Nokia repair a phone they just send you back the same one on its own!! nice try though!!

and they do fix it they just replace the whole flash IC as they arent really allowed to reflow BGAs as its not defo gonna fix it... Nokia is very strict on this aspect!!
