8210 Completely and utterly dead!!!

This phone like my 3310 (for those who see my other thead) will not switch on or charge or even be regognized by any software (rollis, Knok, eeprom tools, Nokia profiler 117 etc etc etc)

But on the main circuit board i notice a small resistor(i think) is missing i assume this is whats cauesing the phone not to switch on.
Does anyone know what this does, or if there is workaround, or where to get a replacement, and if indeed the fact that this is missing any other damage has been done?
(could i use donor parts from the 3310?)

The missing component might have something to do with it, but from the photo it seems that the PCB itself is badly scratched.

It could be that the scratches have affected not only the borders but also some important circuit track, so I think you should check the PCB carefully for that.

To see what component is missing, try and get a 8210 service manual (you can find links for service manuals elsewhere in nokfree, I only have 3310 and 3410 stuff). You can then compare with 3310 to see what parts they may have in common, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of common parts (to save on production costs).

You should also check the mechanical connections, such as the on/off button, SIM reader, battery connector etc, sometimes they are to blame. It's not always the PCB.

Well, I've said a lot of obvious things but if I can think of anything else I'll post it here...

That component is a smoothing capacitor and is used by the CCONT chip next to it (which is the phones power management) and this will be almost certainly why it will not switch on.

I have seem those sort of scratchmarks before, usually indicative of somone having signal/charging problems and deciding that some of the contacts must have got so gunked up that the phone will not function, this however is hardly ever the case, and usualy is a problem with the CCONT or HAGAR (above CCONT on picture). so beware that the phone may have other problems as well as this capacitor.

I could try to repair it if you like, I have access to hot air stuff at uni. I also have the 8210 service manual somewhere if you want it, but you will need an e-mail address which can handle more than 5meg.
