Hello
That is quite simple... select the COM port to which you connect your data cable![]()
your Thanh...
Userport will do no good in helping you use the com ports!!! Rolis will flash in XP without Userport, cos' it was written for XP! The F\Mbus applications were not, so they will not work properly!!! Userport is for the LPT port!!!![]()

Tnx for the info with regards XP and that it does not need Userport with Rolis. So far all I'm getting after I try to read phone, is "Check Mbus Cable" and "Failed to initialise local mode" respectively, I also tried without Userport with same results!!
I checked the cable pin to pin i.e. Nokia to DB9 with a meter, all seems ok, so I cannot understand whats going on
Therfore, please excuse my ignorance, but I know that you good guys out there are here to help and I hope one day I can do the same to others. Thanks in advance for any other help.
Regards Tonin.......

Ensure that the correct LPT port is set in rolis! (There's 2) It's in settings! Try LPT1 and The LPT2! Hope this helps!!!![]()

Tnx again chunkhead for your reply.
Hmmm. getting a bit confused now as I'm not using that type of cable, I'm using an RS232 i.e on a com port, (com2).
I bought this cable on ebay and on the phone plug side there's the words "For NKI 6110/5110" I presume its the right cable?
but as I said on my last post, all I get is "Check Mbus Cable" and "Failed to initialise cable".
Since then I got hold of a 6310 from my wife as her company replaced it with a 6310i (dont know why, but it suits me lol) is it possible to try this same cable with the 6310 just to see if it works with Rolis?? or is Rolis just for an LPT Port only? Thanks once again for your help.
Regards.....Tonin
Aaahhhhh! 6310...
What is it your trying to achieve? The 6310 is a dct-4 phone! There is not much that can be done to this phone I'm afraid! I thought you were trying to flash a DCT-3 phone!? Oh well...![]()

Tnx again for your fast responses to my queries Chunkhead and for your patience with me. I'm getting a bit red faced now and please do forgive my stupidity for not mentioning what phone I was talking about in the first place, so I will try to make it clearer.
Basically, I'm trying to Unlock a Nokia 5110 using Nokia Tool by Rolis, but I read somewhere that WinXP don't open or look at the COM Ports for some security reasons, so I downloaded UserPort as I read that this will solve the problem. Thats when I Posted my 1st question on 28/05/03. Then, I followed your advise of 02/06/03 and did not use UserPort anymore as WinXP don't need it.
The cable I'm trying to use with Rolis is an Fbus/Mbus cable, or its suppose to be and when I try to Read the 5110 with NokTool all I get is "Check Mbus Cable, Failed to initialise local mode" This phone is locked on BT Cellnet and Vodafone and I'd like to unlock it for my daughter as she has a T-Mobile sim card on a very old phone lol.
With regards the 6310, I only got that recently and the reason I asked you that question in my last post is to see if the fault is on the phone, i.e. the 5110, or the cable itself, besides it will be interesting to know if this same cable can be used with the 6310 just to connect to my laptop with Nokia's PC Suite just for SMS, ring tones, Wap etc. I'm sorry but maybe I should move this question in the 63xx section of the Forum? I apologise if this is the case.
Ok, my main question is now, why can't I read or communicate with this 5110 so I can Unlock it? should I maybe buy another cable? (although I checked it pin to pin with a meter!) or do cable maybe vary the way they're wired for different applications?
Again, tnx a lot for your help and please do take your time if you have any replies for me as I know that you're a busy and popular person on this Forum, besides my problem is not that urgent and there maybe others with more important and urgent questions than mine. All the best and keep up the good work.

Tonin, I have no hesitation in helping people who are respectful and polite!![]()
Ok, XP is a pain in the arse!!! What you can try is different programs! I do not use Rolis Nokia Tool for unlock! I use Knok95, not the New Knok! This gave me some hassle in Win2K though, but I still managed to get phones to unlock (for speed reasons I need this to run faultlessly), in which case I changed back to Win98! You can also try Eeprom Tools, which is very good for unlock and diagnose "Contact Service" should it occur! You mentioned a laptop? If that is running a different operating system, copy Knok95 to that and try unlock! Here's the guide:
Quickset FAID, Reset User interface settings, Reset Full Factory Settings, Reset SP Locks, Set new IMEI, Use original IMEI, Quickset faid! In that order! If steps 2 or 3 fail or both, don't worry just continue normally! Also are you sure the correct com port is selected? Connect the phone to the F\Mbus cable, power on the phone, and click the little ladybug in Nokiatool! This will Autosetup your cable!![]()

Hi Tonin,
The 5110 is a single band phone which only operates on the GSM 900mhz networks, such as O2 and Vodafone in UK. This means even if the phone is unlocked it can only be used on Gsm 900 networks.
If you want to use that style of phone you can buy a 5130 which is identical in design and is also single band, but this time it only operates on GSM 1800mhz networks such as Tmobile, Orange and Virgin (although my 5130 also picked up O2 & Voda??)
The problem you had with Noktool1.8 by Rolis has been mentioned by me in another post, you simply have to click the 'Auto Setup' function in the 'Options' menu when the phone is connected and switched on.
Hi Guys, tnx both a lot for your posts.
Tnx also for your opening comments chunkhead, I take that as a compliment, it pays to be polite, respect and be nice to people.
Ahhh, Knok95, never tried that one, I wonder where can I get hold of it?, (sorry if I'm not suppose to ask this!)
I don't mind trying anything to unlock this 5110. I do have Win98SE on the other HDD, but I tried that as well with same results.
With regards the Laptop, cannot use it for this as it has'nt got any com ports, it has 3 USB & 1 Firewire and the usual Printer & PS2 Ports.
Tnx also wwanthony for your comments. I know about the 5110 being single band, but what I did'nt know is that only 02 & Vodafone operates on 900Mhz, I had an impression that all providers in UK operated on 900Mhz, but there you go, I learned something new. There's no need to purchase a 5130 as I do have a phone myself, which is a 3 bander (6310), but tnx for your advice. All I want to Unlock this 5110 for is because 1st, its becoming a challenge to me and 2nd if I succeed, I'll then give it to my daughter.
Anyway, I'll try the knok95 if I manage to get it and if that fail too, then I will have to change my cable.
Well Guys, again, tnx a lot for your advice and help and as always, keep up the good work.
Regards........Tonin
Knok95 can be found in the download section which is in the top righthand corner!!!![]()

Ahhhhhhh, silly Tonin, I must've forgotten about that download link up there chunkheadbut anyway tnx for pointing me there.
I did download it but still no Luck, I even booted on Win98SE & tried to "Read Phoneinfo" "Read Fullflash and store as KNK" etc. etc. and all kind of combinations, i.e. phone off then switch On after running Knok95, with & without sim card, com 1 & com 2, etc etc.
As I said in my last post, I think I need to replace this stupid cable I'm using, I don'nt think it's the 5110 at fault, unless its a special edition phone & cannot be read or unlocked, in that case, I'll put it in a showcase as one day it will be worth a lot of money LOL.
Putting joking aside, do you think I should change the cable?, I do'nt mind getting another one if I have to![]()
Anyways, as always, tnks a lot chunkhead and also, please only reply at your convenience![]()
Regards.....Tonin
The 5110 is already unlocked.
You stated in a previous post "it is locked to Voda and O2".
That means it has not been locked by a particular network.
So it is open to all networks that transmit within the handsets hardware capabilities.
As it is a single band phone, it will only pick up one type of bandwidth which happens to be the GSM 900mhz for 5110.
So no matter where you go in the world, the only networks your phone will get a signal on is the ones which operate on this frequency.
If you tap #pw+1234567890+1# (get the p w + by pressing the * key a few times) you will see displayed "Sim not Restricted".
Sorry for not going into much depth with this explanation in previous post. Hope i've been of some help.
I personally think the best program to unlock DCT3 phones is Noktool1.8 you can get it by hitting www below.
You can also use it to read the phone to see if it is locked or unlocked, with the use of an MBUS compatible datacable.
Hi wwanthony, tnx for your post and info.
You are absolutely right about my 5110 being already unlocked, I did'nt think about that, if I'm getting 2 providers, the phone Must be unlocked, otherwise it will only get 1 provider, the one that it'll be locked on, once again - Silly Tonin.
Also, as I mentioned in my last post, I did'nt know that only Voda & 02 operates on 900Mhz, that explains why when I insert my Orange or T-Mobile Sim card it does'nt find a signal.
Ok I understand now and therefore I'm not going to try anymore to unlock this phone as I'll be waisting my time.
I sincerely thank both you and chunkhead for the help you gave me, this all started when I could'nt use the com port on Userport, hence the subject of this threadTnx also to Thanh who also tried to help at the start of this thread.
I guess thats about it regarding this subject and people like me can learn a lot from guys like you out there, who dedicate a lot of time to reply to posts like this one, so as always, keep up the good work guys and tnx once again![]()
Best regards.....Tonin
