What data cable to get for my 3100?

Hi guys, hope this isn't too OT.

I just got a 3100 and would like a data cable for it. It seems I might have 2 options: the USB cable (DKU-5) or maybe the serial cable (not sure of the details of it).

The serial cable seems to be around $40, while the DKU-5 is around $100-130!!! I don't care if the cable is made out of gold - that is expensive for a cable!!

So my question really is: Can I use that serial cable with my phone (or is it only for older phones, so I have the get the USB one?).

If I can get the serial cable, is there anything that I can do with the USB that I can't with the serial (besides lower transfer speeds)?

    Thanks for any advice!!

the serial cable is actually better than the usb one. with the serial cable you can do everything the usb cable does, but also unlock and change settings using service software.

however, not everything is better, the serial cable fits under the battery, and every phone model has phisically different connectors there, so if you buy a serial data cable for 3100 - it will only work with 3100 (and maybe some other dct4 3xxx phones like 3200), while the usb cable will work with every model that has a pop-port (almost all dct4 models).

about the price, i believe it is higher because it is an original nokia product, like benzor said.

bottom line: if you don't need to unlock or things like that, the usb cable will be better.

Well I just bought the DKU-5 USB cable for $24 bucks off ebay, and I'm happy with it. I'm not really into unlocking and what not though. I just bought it because the damn Interent service is outrageous, and I like customizing my phone. I had the 3595 and it bit the dust within I'd say 4 months, so Cincinnati Bell gave me the 3100 free of charge. I hope this is a better phone.
