Network Code for PORTA (Ecuador)

Hello, I'm trying to unlock my Nokia 1100 I just got down here in Ecuador... Sadly Ecuador being a 3rd world country with only 2 cell phone providers, I'm unable to find any program that lists Ecuador inthe Network Codes... How can I go about finding this code on my own?

okies, just found it, thanks anyways guys... sadly even with my nokia unlocked neither my UK Tmobile or my USA Tmobile sim is accepted on this lame network down here

Every provider has their own SIMcards... meaning that in order to operate under a designated provider, you have to buy a SIMcard from them. That way, your phone can be identificated in the network.

A locked phone means that the phone is locked to a certain provider, and it won't accept SIMcards from other providers. If you unlock the phone, it should accept any SIMcard, but the SIMcard has to be from the provider.

I don't understand your situation (probably due to my lack of english knowledge), so maybe i missunderstood you, but seems to me that you didn't understand perfectly what is "locked".

You have a phone locked to a provider in Ecuador, and you want to unlock it to work it with other provider, so, you MUST have a SIMcard from the provider you want to operate under. That's why a SIMcard from Tmobile (either USA or OK) won't work in Ecuador.

Second, be sure that your phone is compatible with the frequencies. For example, GSM frequencies in Argentina aren't compatible with Brasil frequencies, if you don't have a tri-band phone, you can't operate. Even that, not all tri-band phones are able to operate worldwide. And, the 1100 is a bi-band phone.

To unlock the phone, download the Unique calculator. In that calc, you can put any network code, because they're not listed like in the online calc (the online calc doesn't have Argentina providers listed also).

If you explain better the situation, maybe we can do something better 4 u.

Hi

I bought a 6100 nokia mobile in the UK and un-locked it in a shop. It was originally with Orange. I tried with a Virgin SIM and the phone worked so I assumed it was unlocked. I am now in Ecuador, and I tried a Porta SIM and the mobile does not recognize the network at all.

As far as I know, PORTA works on a GSM 850 Mhz band, and my mobile is a triband on EGSM 900 GSM 1800 and 1900. Do u think my problem has to do with the band and the type of network? or does my mobile was only partially unlocked? Any ideas?

Bad luck man... the network is on a different frequency. The phone will just not work...

The phone is unlocked, as far as i know, there's no such a thing as a "partial unlocking". I'ts either locked or unlocked.

You can be sure about that, because the phone recognizes the SIM and searched for the network, so it's unlocked for sure. It keeps searching the network, and doesn't find it, because the network is on a different frequency.

I guess that there's no solution for that, because the frequencies in which a phone works are set by hardware, not by software (well, that's my knowledge).

I'm sorry for not giving you a good panorama... but, that's the way it is...

You'd probably require a QUAD BAND phone (phones which only support 2 frequencies are called "Dual Band" not BI band!), umm the only QUAD band phone that i know of which is currently in the market is the Motorola v600.
Quad Band is 850/900/1800/1900.

Sorry for the mistake man. I'm from Argentina and my natural language is spanish, and not english, like you. So obviously i can make some mistakes, because i don't talk to everyone in english!!.

Anyways, i didn't knew that if i said bi instead of dual, it was impossible to understand.

Next time, try to say things in a better way.
