I'm brand spanking new to all of these, so be forwarned of silly or repeated questions.

I have a nokia 6820 with at&t service. I have home internet service that I use, and voice IP . I am needing internet service for emergency use only. If my internet goes down so does my home phone so I can't call a dial up.

I was under the impression that since my nokia can be used as a modem, that I could just call a free provider like Netzero and use their service if need be. I have not been able to connect though, and finally called at&t only to be told that they do not support that sort of thing, that I would have to buy one of their packages.

I know some other companies let you do this, so I know its possible. Is At&t just feeding me bull, or are they really not up to par?

What is a WAP? Can I use this on my phone. If so can someone give me some preschool answers on how to connect because I am totally lost.

Any other suggestions and/or comments would be appreciated.
