6230 - Restriction Code then CONTACT SERVICE

WTH?...new 6230 from OPtus (australia), upgrading from my old Optus supplied 6210i...put in my old faithful sim and i get a Restriction Code request. Optus Support havent heard of it, they get me to try my phone PIN, the default PIN, and the the phone wont boot - now getting CONTACT Service error. I ring Nokia SUpport - they tell me the phone is stuffed and needs to be replaced.

This is a brand new phone straight out of the shrinkwrap - can anyone tell me whats happenend here?

Try another SIM card in your phone. I had a similar problem ,when turning my phone on I could'nt enter my pin code it kept rejecting it and had to turn my phone on by entering the PUK code.
After getting another SIM card from Optus, I've have had no other problems.

I got the same problem with my new phone from O2 in the UK. They told me it was a fault from the factory and the handset would need replaced, which it was. Hope this is any help.
